What is UUID v4?
A random UUID v4 is an identifier made from random bits. The third group starts with 4, and the fourth group starts with one of 8, 9, a, or b. The example 3f2504e0-4f89-41d3-9a0c-0305e82c3301 is a valid UUID v4. This page's validator reports it as Valid UUID v4 (RFC 9562). This page uses crypto.getRandomValues for random values. You can use such values as database keys, session tokens, or file names when you need a short unique string.
What is UUID v7?
UUID v7 stores a Unix millisecond timestamp in the first 48 bits, so values created later usually sort after earlier ones. For timestamp 1700000000000, a v7 UUID starts with 018bcfe5 and has 6800 in positions 10 through 13. The 15th character is 7, and the 20th character is one of 8, 9, a, or b. Use v7 when you need time-ordered keys.
How does the validator work?
The validator checks the pasted text in the UUID input. It reports valid values with their version and variant. For example, {3F2504E0-4F89-41D3-9A0C-0305E82C3301} is valid, and 3f2504e04f8941d39a0c0305e82c3301 is valid. not-a-uuid is invalid. The result text shows the version and variant when valid.
Frequently asked questions
Can I generate more than one UUID?
Yes. Set Count to a whole number from 1 to 1000, then click Generate. The output box shows one UUID per line. Use Copy to copy the list or Download .txt to save it as uuids.txt.
What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?
v4 is random. v7 includes a Unix millisecond timestamp, so values created later usually sort after earlier ones. For timestamp 1700000000000, a v7 value starts with 018bcfe5 and has 7 in the 15th character.
Can I remove hyphens or add braces?
Yes. Uncheck Hyphens to get 32 hex characters. Check Braces to wrap each UUID in { and }. Check Uppercase to use uppercase hex letters. These options change only the displayed text, not the UUID value.
How do I validate a UUID?
Type a value in the UUID field under Validate a UUID. The page checks it as you type and shows a result such as Valid UUID v4 (RFC 9562) or Not a valid UUID. It also reports the version and variant for valid values.
Does this UUID generator upload my data?
No. The generator and validator run in your browser. The page does not send the UUIDs to a server. Your count, version, format choices, and pasted UUID remain in the page until you change them.
What does the count error mean?
If Count is empty, not a whole number, or less than 1, the page shows Count must be a whole number from 1 to 1000. and keeps the last valid list visible.
